On 28 May 2024, Zurich was all about digital transformation. The IT Transformation & Enterprise Architecture Panel, co-organized by BOC Group and adesso Switzerland, attracted numerous experts who wanted to play an active role in shaping the future of IT and Enterprise Architecture.
Jean-Jacques Pittet, Head of CIO Advisory at adesso Switzerland, spoke about digital maps.
The afternoon began with an inspiring introduction by Jean-Jacques Pittet, Head of CIO Advisory at adesso Switzerland, and Alexander Kleinsasser, Business Development Manager at BOC Switzerland. They questioned the outdated image of Enterprise Architecture (EA) and called for EA to be seen for what it is – an indispensable “digital map” that helps navigate the complexity of modern organizations. Their insightful remarks were well-received, making for an inspiring start to the event.
Hélène Mourgue d’Algue, CIO, City of Biel
Hélène Mourgue d’Algue, CIO of the city of Biel, inspired the audience with her practical report. She provided valuable insights into how the city of Biel is placing its Enterprise Architecture at the centre of digital transformation. She explained how Biel introduced the EA methodology through clear IT governance and EA standards and the added value it brings in day-to-day use. Her statement “We need to understand data flows and systems – without this understanding, there is no digitalization” emphasized the importance of EA and was received with a great deal of consensus.
After an energizing coffee break, Ralf Schmidt, Head of Data & AI at adesso Switzerland, introduced the participants to the topic of data management. He explained how a well-structured data inventory is the key to a data-driven organisation.
The crowning finale belonged to Daniel Wiczynski and Jan Probst from Zurich Insurance. They reported on the transformation in Enterprise Architecture at their organization. They highlighted how the decentralization of Enterprise Architecture led to a stronger connection with the business units. Jan Probst in particular captured the audience’s interest by explaining how employees can be won over to EA projects through clear benefits and intrinsic motivation.
