BOC Group has once again been named a Key Innovator by the European Commission’s Innovation Radar, in recognition of two innovations developed within the FAIRWork project.

This recognition draws attention to FAIRWork’s approach to supporting decision-making in complex, fast-changing environments – where decisions depend on input from multiple teams, systems, and stakeholders, and information is often fragmented.

As project coordinator of this Horizon Europe initiative, BOC Group plays a central role in ensuring that advanced research concepts are not only developed, but also translated into practical innovations that can be tested and applied in real organizational settings.

Making Complex Work Environments More Adaptable

FAIRWork starts from a simple premise: decisions are only as good as the information they are based on.

In many organizations, relevant information is spread across processes, systems, and roles, making it difficult to develop a shared understanding of the current situation or envision how changes might play out. FAIRWork investigates how structured knowledge models and digital representations of work environments can bring this information together and make it usable when decisions need to be made.

Building on this foundation, AI plays a supporting role by helping decision-makers better understand trade-offs, consider alternative options, and anticipate outcomes – while final decisions remain firmly with people. And two FAIRWork innovations bring this approach to life in practice.

Knowledge Representation Ecosystem (KRE)

Knowledge Representation Ecosystem (KRE) is at the heart of this projectIt serves as the knowledge backbone of FAIRWork, helping to connect the dots between systems, processes, and roles.

Instead of relying on different documents, tools, or individual memory, KRE makes knowledge easier to find, share, and reuse. It turns scattered information into a living resource that teams can build on over time – keeping decisions coherent and allowing organizations to learn and adapt as circumstances change.

OMiLAB Digital Innovation Environment (DIEn)

While KRE establishes a reliable knowledge foundation, the OMiLAB Digital Innovation Environment (DIEn) offers a safe space to explore the implications of change.

DIEn enables organizations to experiment with new ways of working, process changes, and decision-support concepts without disrupting live operations. This helps teams understand the potential impact of changes before they are implemented at scale.

Together, KRE and DIEn turn shared knowledge into informed action – supporting deliberate change, reducing risk, and strengthening decision-making.

Building Practical Insight Through Research

FAIRWork is one example of how we blend research with hands-on innovation. As a Horizon Europe coordinator and partner, we engage with emerging concepts early, test them in real-world settings and help shape how they perform in practice.

This way of working has created a steady stream of insight that goes beyond individual projects. Each initiative is a learning step, strengthening new tools and refining how they are applied to real business pains.

Being recognized once again on the European Commission’s Innovation Radar reflects this sustained focus on practical relevance, collaboration, and long-term value creation.
